This is one of the most overlooked but important things about this industry that most people will never get. You see it’s all great and good if you are a part of a good business and you understand that you HAVE TO learn how to market, but if you don’t have a good mentor to guide you through the “dark” along your journey, most never become truly successful in their business.

So I decided that the best way to get what I was looking for, was to find someone that had those skills that I wanted to have myself, and get them to teach them to me.

And that’s exactly what I got.

Now, not only did I get guidance, I got the real in’s and out’s of how this business actually works and what is really possible.

I also got to mirror a lot of the techniques and strategies that my mentor used himself in his own marketing campaigns. Now when you have that type of leverage, it’s priceless!

If not for my mentor, I can personally say that I would never have been able to become a top earner in my business and would STILL be working in my financial job. Which would really stink!

I ran across this short story today which was written by Stephen Covey and it just really hits home on so many different points when it comes to having success in Network Marketing that I felt compelled to share it with you today:

Once upon a time a very strong woodcutter asked for a job in a timber merchant, and he got it. The pay was really good and so were the work conditions. For that reason, the woodcutter was determined to do his best.

His boss gave him an axe and showed him the area where he was supposed to work.

The first day, the woodcutter brought 18 trees

“Congratulations,” the boss said. “Go on that way!”

Very motivated by the boss’ words, the woodcutter tried harder the next day, but he only could bring 15 trees. The third day he tried even harder, but he only could bring 10 trees. Day after day he was bringing less and less trees.

“I must be losing my strength”, the woodcutter thought. He went to the boss and apologized, saying that he could not understand what was going on.

“When was the last time you sharpened your axe?” the boss asked.

“Sharpen? I had no time to sharpen my axe. I have been very busy trying to cut trees…”

The moral of this story is that sometimes, it’s not about how hard you work that makes the difference. It’s about how “smart” you work. Also, when it comes to growing your Network Marketing business, it’s about keeping your “tools” sharp. And in our industry, our “tools” are our skill set. Now different people have different ideas about what skill set is important in Network Marketing. For me personally, the number 1 money making skill set is – MARKETING. If you don’t keep your Marketing skills sharp, it is very unlikely that you will have ANY success or lasting wealth in this industry.

It’s also important to not get too caught up with just “trying” to be busy. If you’re being busy doing non-productive activities, how is that going to help you move forward in your business? I see this happen time and time again and it’s just a matter of getting organized and spending more time on “income generating” activities and less time on things that won’t really increase your bottom line.

Lastly, just because you have been “cutting trees” for years does not mean that you cut trees well. You may have been “cutting trees” the wrong way for years and have picked up many bad habits along the way. So be prepared to take a good look at yourself and remember that there is always room for improvement.

So, spend more time on sharpening your skill set and success will follow suit.

It’s not worth taking the risk, even if you are promised to “get in from the ground level”.

2. Self Branding
If you want to have people calling you, instead of the other way round, this is the only way to market. Forget what you think you know about selling products. If you want to make the most out of your network marketing career, the only thing you will need to learn how to sell is YOU. This is a people business. People join other people, they don’t join companies. People need help and they want to follow a leader. That leader is YOU.

3. Leverage The Internet
Old school methods like talking to friends and family are possible but extremely difficult to get good results. The earlier you embrace the power of the Internet, the more likely you will get better results. The reach is incredible, and there are tools which are designed to leverage your time and reduce wastage. It is also the easiest way to truly have a worldwide business instead of just a local one.

4. Online Marketing System
Education is the KEY in this business. Top earners are NOT smarter, they are just more well informed. Therefore it is your main responsibility to get educated on the most effective online marketing techniques available. The easiest way to get this education is to use an Online Marketing System. You could learn everything and figure it out piece by piece and develop each process yourself which will take forever, or you can join a proven system that is already built and can do all this for you. This strategy is called Search Engine Optimization, or better known as SEO. Now don’t let this technical term confuse you or turn you off. This is to ensure that Google will be able to locate and rank your website properly. There is no point having the most beautiful website in the world if Google can’t find it.

#3. Website Popularity

Google decides if something is important or not by the number of sites that point to it. So the more sites that have your website link on it, the more relevant and important Google will think it is. This means that you can have any number of articles, videos, websites or blogs that point to a website address that you wish to rank on Google’s first page. All you need to do, is create the content and start posting them on as many different places as you can. Then sit back and let Google’s algorithms do their work.

Last but not least, you do need to remember that this strategy does take time. It will take a while before your website can be located and ranked in the search engines.  So do be patient and you will be laughing all the way to the bank!
